FHE and the police

For Family Night each Monday night we always start off with announcements. My husband prompted the sharing by asking if anyone had had any run-ins with the police today (!)... I thought he was just being silly, or that he knew that someone had gotten another "turning left by going thru another and opposite direction left-turn lane" (two in the family so far) ticket.

But noooo.... our oldest daughter had a story to tell!

First off, we believe firmly that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God. In fact, a modern-day prophet and apostles of God have delcared that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

Because of this, and the very imporatant Prop 8 on the ballot in two weeks, our oldest daughter and some friends decided to do a peaceful demonstration--march with large Yes on Prop 8 signs-- in front of a large elementary school this morning. Not 5 minutes after arriving on the sidewalk, the assistant principal marched out and went berserk! (It should be noted that D~ had already checked with the school district, and knew the parameters: they could walk on the sidewalk, as long s they kept moving and didn't block traffic.) The AP told them immediately that they were upsetting parents, blocking traffic, couldn't be there (all untrue) and that she was calling the police, which she did. They could hear her wild complaints to the police, as well as her loud, running commentary on the walkie-talkies of the burly valet-escorts who help students out of cars. Three police cars soon showed up, and looked at D~ and her friend and said, "Is this all? You're fine."

Oh my goodness! What kind of world is this where a first-grade teacher can take her class on a fieldtrip to see a lsebian wedding, but the voices of those who believe in traditional marriage are thrown out as invalid...?

I'm very proud of my dughter, who lives her convictions, is not afraid of those who mistakenly shout "Politically
Correct!" and "Tolerance!" (Tolerance--there's a word. Tolerance does NOT mean condone and embrace! The dictionary cites tolerance as: a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opionions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own. I believe in that. That's good. Now, where's the tolerance for those who believe in tradtional marriage???)

I'm proud of a daughter who knows that in these perilous times 'good' will be called 'evil', and those who stand up for good may be ridiculed and/or persecuted for standing up for the right-- and she's still going to stand up for it.

Keep marching! Vote YES on Prop 8!
