Find something...

A neighbor's yard down the street has been unkempt for weeks now, and when you look at it you could certainly be tempted to say,"Aaaah--what a mess, I don't want any of those to flow over into my yard!"

It really is FULL of dandelions. As I took my walk around the block this evening, I felt compelled to come back with my camera--what amazing creatures dandelions are! I've always avoided them --even when my students pick them from the playground yard and bring them to me, I thank them, but I dump them right into the trash as soon as the students have gone home--weeds, weeds, weeds!

But when I tried a close up tonight, I saw the infinite possibilities:How gorgeous! What a world of potential!
It reminded me of the talk we heard in church today. The speaker noted that when he had been a young missionary, Sterling W. Sill had come to talk to them, and told each of them that they had a skill--something that they could do better than anyone else. If they wanted to be successful in life, they needed to find out what that skill was, work hard, perfect it, (market it, I'm sure) and they would be rich. He took the speaker at his word, found out what it was that he could do better than anyone else, and went to work.
(And he is rich! He has machine shops that make a certain part used by Arabs in their oil field machinery--and it seems that he's the only one making that needed part, or making it better than anyone else! --But that wasn't part of his talk, I just happen to know the continuation of the story.)
Hmmm... I don't think I've found the thing that I'm better at than anyone else... because I certainly don't have a bank full of money--but I do consider myself very rich, with a family I love and a job helping children to realize some of their potential.

Beautiful photo! I love it! I defnitely haven't found that thing I'm VERY good at, and able to be rich from! However, like you, I'm very happy with all I have!

Hey ... how did I miss this post?

Do you know what you are amazing at?
You throw the BEST parties ... especially when we get to the game part of the evening. You are SO super at getting people to join in to the games and feel like they are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to the success of the evening. My kids can't resist going to your house when you are hosting a get together. Me either! I love love love going to your house. Good food, good games, great little video tidbits sometimes. You really know how to throw a party.

Somebody would want to read these party tips of yours in a book. Not so much about "themes" ... but about how to get people included in games ... how to think up things to do that are irresistable to people who usually DONT' participate .. . but your magic is knowing how to get people to participate. And you don't twist arms. You just offer irresistable bait. THAT'S your gift. At least, one of them.

I would buy a book on that for sure!
