The 'Rainmaker'

I LOVE the The Long Beach Community Playhouse. They almost always put on a good production-- and this month they have a great story about a charismatic con-man who comes into a drought-ridden rural town in Depression-era America and changes the lives of a spinster, her father, and two brothers.
The acting was superb--the entire cast was wonderful, and I love to see them so up close and personal (the main stage is an in-the-round-format, and the theater only seats about 200).

Unfortunately, the theater was half empty... it makes me worried that-- in today's economy --great little venues like this will have to fold.

So, wherever you are, support your local theater! And--support the "Friday Night Date"! My husband didn't always do the Friday Night date thing, but once he got converted (--a church leader was extolling the virtues and importance of taking your wife out for date night each week, and my husband was listening and taking notes--thank goodness!) we haven't missed a date night since--for the past 17 years straight. (Once in a while we have to tweak it to a Saturday, or add a Wednesday, but we still guard our date-night tradition carefully.) It's wonderful, and I thank the Lord for a good husband, and good entertainment still to be found in the world.
